U.S. LABOR DATA · BLS OEWS, MAY 2024
Twenty jobs that paythe most per hour
Hourly pay rates derived from median annual wage across the highest-earning U.S. occupations, ranked from most to least. Healthcare and aviation dominate the top of the list.
How the rate is calculated: BLS reports pay for these roles as an annual median, not a surveyed hourly wage, since they're salaried occupations. Each figure here is that annual median divided by 2,080 hours (a standard full-time year) — a standard estimate, not an independently measured hourly rate, and it assumes a flat 40-hour week even though several of these roles routinely work more.
† Reporting cap: BLS caps published medians at $239,200/yr. Surgeons and other top medical specialists sit at or above this figure — their true median pay is higher than shown.
